that I've made with prayer.
Mistake #1. Doing all the talking and then asking God why He's not speaking to me.
Mistake #2. Bringing a "shopping list".
Mistake #3. Acting like God's the one out of tune.
Mistake #4. Doing all the talking.
Mistake#5. Treating God like a vending machine.
Mistake #6. Asking Him how much it will cost.
Mistake #7. Doing all the talking.
Mistake #8. Begging, like He's holding back something good
Mistake #9. Promising, instead of asking, to do better.
Mistake#10. Doing all the talking.
Yes, I AM aware that "doing all the talking" appeared four times on that list. That is because this is the mistake I make most often. God can't speak to us if we do all the talking. Sheesh... who's the all-knowing one? God. So who needs to be talking? God. And who needs to be listening? Us.
Not to say that we aren't to bring our requests to Him... we 100% ARE supposed to do that. But if we wouldn't make our human friends endure a one-sided conversation, why would we make God do that? Spill out your worries, thoughts, and joys to your friend, and then listen to Him for a while. Sit still. Don't talk. Ask a few questions, then just listen.
I did it tonight... and it was the best thing I've done in a long time.
When was the last time you just sat still... and listened?
Wow - thanks for your honesty. I can identify with, well, every one of those, especially number 10 (and one and four and seven). What a great reminder - we can play music by ear - now it's time to bring prayer into the mix
