Quick Story

You'd think I would have more time to write now that summer is supposed to be here... but to answer that question, I'm just going to have to stress the supposed to.
But, I did have something quite interesting and thought-provoking happen to me while I was at NCFCA Nationals, and I thought I'd record it for you all to ponder with me.

I love getting inspirational quotes in impromptu rounds. It makes it so much easier to give an inspirational speech! So, needless to say, I was positively thrilled when I drew just such a quote in round one of the tournament.

"How wonderful it is that no one need wait a single moment to begin improving the world."
~Ann Frank

The speech went really well. I talked about how we shouldn't wait until we're "older" or "smarter" or "richer" to begin changing the world.
In it, I used the quote, "Be the change you want to see in the world."
It was a pretty good speech. I was pleased.
But it didn't end there.

That day at lunch, we had Asian food, and I had a fortune cookie.
Now, I don't know how often you eat fortune cookies, but they usually have some cryptic, vague, prediction that can be translated a thousand different ways.

"Something nice will happen to you in the afternoon." "You will be successful in your career." "Your friends appreciate you."

Wow, how helpful.

But this one didn't. It was a short, powerful phrase that made my mouth drop open and my eyes widen. And it wasn't just me, my reaction was mirrored on some of my friends faces.

"You must be the change you wish to see in the world."

Cross my heart, I'm not joking. That is word for word what it said. Seem a little weird? It gets better.
Round two, the envelope was filled with words. The word I drew?

"Change."

I have to agree with my parents, and some of my friends. God must just be trying to tell me something. Things like that don't just happen. "Odds" and "likelihood" don't even enter the picture. I'm not exactly sure what He's trying to tell me, but it's definitely something to think about.

What change do you want to see in the world?

Leaning on Him,

~Rachel Lynn

  1. Wow! Coincidences? Omens? That is so cool Rachel! I love that quote from Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, "We need to be the change we wish to see in the world." Powerful. I agree - this is probably being brought to your attention for a reason. How stupendous! When we say, "The Lord works in mysterious ways," I think we could insert, "The Lord doesn't mind working in quirky ways either!"

No, I will not stoop to begging for comments through annoying blinkies... but please?
