Teenpact is a leadership school that conducts four-day state classes at various states around the country for young people ages 13-18. At this point, they are operating in around 48 states, and Oregon is privileged to be one of them!
At Teenpact, you will gain a greater understanding of state politics, learn leadership qualities, and find out how you as a young person can affect what goes on inside your state capitol, all from a Christian perspective. It is a hands-on class that teaches you not only how the government works, but why you should care. It is a lot of fun and you will make great friends. (Not to mention it’s worth a 1/3 government credit.)
There is a long list of awesome activities you will participate in at the state class, including Teenpact legislature, mock committee hearings over lunch, Devil’s Advocate, Teenpact elections, and writing your own bill. There is also worship and devotions in the morning and prayer walks around the capitol.
This class has taught me so much, not just about government, but about God, myself, and the qualities of leadership. I highly recommend this class to everyone, whether they are planning on going into politics when they are older, or they just need the credits.
But wait, there’s more!
If you aren’t into politics, there is still something for you! Once you have completed the Teenpact state-class, there is an array of alumni events you are eligible to attend. I recently attended Teenpact Survival NW, which taught me leadership in the context of basic survival training and teamwork. There is also Teenpact Judicial, Endeavor for girls, Challenge for boys, and National Convention, among many others. After all, at Teenpact, we do more than just politics! :)
